Horizontal stabilizer is now clecoed and ready for match drilling

About two months ago I've discovered that I had a problem with the rear spar assembly. When I started clecoing HS together for match drilling, I realized I could not cleco about two thirds of the left upper and lower skins to the rear spar. Holes in the spar seemed to be positioned a bit narrower than in the skin. It was a good thing that Sun'N'Fun was coming because this is where I took my pictures and problem to - to talk to Vans right there.
Guys at the booth as well as guys at Vans via support email has confirmed that this was a defective rear spar. Vans sent me a new spar. They asked me if I needed all the parts (doubler, hinge brackets) too, but I said "no", I was going to drill our the ones I had riveted to the faulty spar.
It turned out that drilling out was not giving me satisfying results, so I've ordered doubler and brackets too.
Finally, I've prepared the new rear spar, match drilled everything, primed and then today I have riveted it together.
One thing I'm not sure about is that I needed to use AN470-AD4-6 rivets for the doubler. I don't know if I've used them or if they were AN470-AD4-5. Need to find out if I need to redo them.
Also, I was too happy to place rear spar assembly in the HS assembly to make sure everything matches. I does!!! Everything looks good.
However, in my haste, I did not bolt the part from page 8-3 to the rear spar. Since it was already clecoed and there was ample space to do it in the assembly I've bolted it right there, but somehow managed to drop the torque wrench. Shoot! Now I need to re-calibrate it.
Anyway, I'm not ready to do match drilling of the HS assembly. I'm on page 8-9 now!

Horizontal Front Spar is ready

In the last few days I have primed and riveted both Rear Horizontal Spar and Front Horizontal Spar. Since everything was prepared for priming and riveting since November or 2015, it was rather fast and enjoyable thing to do. I did have to remind myself and practice on a few rivets because it has been such a long break, but I hope things turned out OK.

Yesterday night I've pulled new parts out. Started steps 3 and 4 on page 8-6. I've trimmed four Inspar Ribs.

Rear horisontal spar is ready

In the past few days I managed to get back to garage and tried to do a thing here or there.
I've riveted Rear Horizontal Spar. It was interesting to note that the damaged hole in the flange of the spar behaved just like it was a solid piece of metal. I drilled it, the machine countersunk it, just like the metal. JB Weld is really awesome!

Horisontal Stabilizer update

Since around November 7, 2015 I've been working on the first few pages of the Horizontal Stabilizer (Section 8).
I've made brackets, I've rearranged work tables wings and fuselage in our garage so we can walk by all that and I can still work.
I've deburred all edges and lightening holes on rear spar, and on the rear spar doubler. I've match drilled them and elevator hinges. Then I've deburred all holes.
Then I did the same for the front spar and doubler.
I've made the part on page 8-3.

I've pulled HS-1013, HS-1014, and HS-1015, cut them and deburred.
Then I've deburred all edges and lightening holes on front spar, and on the front spar doubler.
Past couple of days I've been match drilling spar caps, doubler, brackets and deburring all that.
Today, when I was almost done with page 8-5 where I countersunk nine holes in the flanges of the front spar, a leading tip of the countersink cutter broke and I've made a too deep hole. Let's see what Vans tell me about it (I've emailed them already).

Here are the spars and spar caps. Kind of what I've done in the past weeks.

Doubler, and brackets on the front spar.

And these are the hinges on the rear spar.

I expect to receive Prekote next Wednesday, so hopefully soon I will have time to prime all these parts.

I'm sitting in our airplane!!!

Last Saturday I got to sit in our RV-10!

Horisontal stabilizer begins

Last Sunday, I started HS by making forward spar brackets. To make sure I did things right I went to my friend Art Cole to do them. They seemed to turn out well.

Rudder is completed

Finally, the rudder is complete. It only took me 6 months or so. Next thing to do is to show it to our EAA tech counselor to make sure he approves it. On to horizontal stabilizer!
